Question Asked: this is a close up of the previous one. not sure if this is poison ivy/oak, but it came up in the same place some poison ivy came up the year before. this was growing next to some bushes in my front yard in fairfax city in virginia.

Answer: Hi John -

The first plant (in the top 2 pictures) is familiar to me but since it seems to be summer and a Sunday, the name is just failing to come to me :-(. I can say absolutely it is not poison ivy. One key characterisitic of this plant that helps in nixing it as poison ivy is the leaves being in pairs (opposite) on the stem. Another characteristic that is not like poison ivy is the general leaflet shape.

The second plant (bottom 2 pictures) is a bramble - likely wild blackberry or similar. I see bristles along the stem which help in identification here.
