Question Asked: we have a big mess of tangled vines and bushes out back near our shed....there were wild blackberries out there last year, but are now covered with very aggressive vines. took pictures to try to identify the vines.......and after the fact realized i might have been holding poison ivy in my hand!!! the vine climbing up shed is very suspicious, 3 leaves with center leaf on a longer stem...pulled some down off of shed before i realized what it might be....was hanging on very stubbornly with many hooks....left black mark on shed where it was hanging on. dreading the next day or 2...scared i'm gonna break out in the rash of my life!

Answer: Hi Jeana -

You'll have to let us know if you did get a rash from that vine. It is poison ivy. Now the good news is that you can't get a rash from an uninjured plant as the urushiol oil is contained in resin canals within the plant. The bad news is that it is a very fragile plant so when you were tearing it out, you likely damaged the plant and release the oil. Just holding the plant as you did to take a picture was probably ok as those leaflets look undamaged.
