I was shocked to finally get diagnosed today with a Poison Oak rash after 7 days of being told it wasn't. Here's the kicker I was not anywhere near the PLANT! At some point my DOG a springer spaniel was off wondering while doing her duty and must have gotton into Poison Oak.
I was told by the Vet today where she went for an immediate bath that dogs are not affected as we are. Because of their fur they do not get skin breakouts, but they do carry the Poison Oils in their fur. Where she brought it into my house, all over my couch, bed and carpets. I new that I was extremely allergic to Poison Oak due to almost dying from a severe total body case when I was younger, which is why I do not take walks in the woods.
Is this true? Did I actually catch Poison Oak from my dog? Has anyone else ever heard of this?
After so many days of extreme welts and itching I finally received a hydrocrtizone(Depromedrol) shot today and I am already feeling relief. I did not have a usual blistery breakout, it was more of a red welt that subsides and itches like crazy. I did find itch relief using Aveeno's Oatmeal OTC lotion.
Best Wishes To All!
