I'd see a doctor for the final word on this but I've never heard of it staying in your system.

A lot of people report having the infection one year and then getting it again the next year.

The oil from PI/PO/PS can last for many years outside of the plant. Often times people start gardening and cleaning up around the house in the spring. Most cases occur in the spring for that reason. If you used garden tools, equipment, clothing, gloves, etc. last spring and used them again this spring you could very well get exposed to urushiol from those items.

When you get a case of PI/PO/PS remember to clean all your clothes, shoes, boots, garden tools and equipment and anything else you had in the woods with you around that time.
