Rich, your friend cannot spread it to you by sharing your hot tub. However, she should wait until her rash is gone because the heat is not good for the rash. It will increase blood flow which will increase itching and oozing, and in turn delay healing. If she is in the oozing stage, she could possibly get a secondary infection if your hot tub has higher levels of bacteria, and all the info I have read, there are warnings to abstain from hot tub use when you have lesions, (and for females) are on your monthly period, or are prone to bladder infections. Infection is a real risk, not spreading it on herself or to you.

Even so, cold water or ice treatments are the right way to go with any poison ivy outbreak. Hot water increases inflammation of the rash.
