Your friend's reaction of black spots is rare. Less commonly, some people may have such a high concentration of urushiol on the skin that it will polymerize, forming black spots. These spots cannot be removed by washing and will eventually slough off. The same thing happens to the plants when the urushiol oil oxidizes from the air, it develops black spots where the oil was exposed.

What "stuff" does she put on her skin all the time? You didn't say. With poison ivy you have to use different methods during the whole healing process. What works for week one may not be appropriate for week two. Also, can you be more specific as to how long she has been with a rash, and what her bumps look like (are they still blistering, for example) That would help.

She should let her legs totally heal before shaving. It sounds as if she had a very severe case, and shaving could possibly cause more irritation or infection. Why risk it now...just wear long pants until her skin is cleared up if she is concerned about the hair. Even milder cases can take a month or more to be totally healed. She needs patience, it will eventually go away thank goodness. Send back those answers if you can :)
