I have gotten poison ivy hundreds of times. I can tell you first hand that it does spread. I currently have it and it spread from my right knee to my left knee three days after the initial break out and 5 days after exposure. That is not a myth. Last year I had a case (my 3rd of the year) where it spread form my legs to my arms and down my forearms. I had to go to the doctor and take the steroids to get ride of it.

If it is spreading and becomes raised and more than a couple inches long, don't wait it out. See a doctor.
