Phil,
Everything you touched after whacking can have potential p.i. oil on them. The weed whacker handle, spool, where you hung it up, etc... could have the oil residues still there. Your clothes, shoe soles and laces, the door knob you touched,etc.. can have the residues. Think back to what you did and start wiping down this stuff so no one else gets it.
It should go away by itself but its usually a long process, especially if you hang outside and sweat in the hot weather.
Start looking at some of the remedies and help yourself!
