So I was clearing out my stone wall last weekend, and subsequently got PI...didn't realize what I was yanking out of the ground at the time- no leaves yet, just little stemmy things...at any rate, it was PI.

After reading here, it seems that UNLESS YOU STILL HAVE OIL ON YOU/UNDER NAILS, that scratching is NOT going to spread it any further on you, nor to anyone else.

They say don't scratch it. Why not??? After several days of lotions and going mad with itch, I succumbed (sp?) and scratched the worst-of-the-worst areas (small blisters), and all I got was RELIEF from the itching when they ruptured! And the inflamed area did NOT get any bigger!
