We've had good results with RoundUp here. The key has been to 1) mix-up the solution in a sprayer (those pre-mixed bottles don't seem to be the right concentration) and adding just a little soap to the solution. The soap helps the product to adhere to the plant better and makes the "water wetter" (reduces water surface tension). For the biggest vines, we just cut a chunk out of the vine and it dies off.

My husband has a separate sprayer just for RoundUp as we don't want the issues you mentioned, Brian, about residues.
