Your blunt manner will doubtless offend some people, but perhaps that is what is needed to get people's attention here! I got poison oak for the first time (at age fifty six) about five weeks ago. I've been over it now for about a week and, yes, it WAS a drag but I was shocked to discover the abundance of misinformation circulating about it; and I am angry every time I ponder what appears to be the default, needlessly aggressive, treatments recommended by our "Medical Community"! I am convinced along with you that, for MOST cases, the VERY BEST thing you can do...is NOTHING! It's true, of course, that some topical treatments, at least, are not likley to make you feel any worse and so...what's to lose? So if you want to take more frequent showers to make you feel better...go for it! But I VERY strongly recommend that people think long and hard before they start gulping Prednisone! I consider that to be the medical analogue of trying to eradicate your garden snails with a machine gun! Now...in all fairness and in all seriousness, let's acknowledge that for SOME people and for SOME cases of poison oak/ivy, it CAN be all the way to a life-threatening affliction. For some cases (involving difficulty breathing, for example), aggressive treatment might be justified.
