Ugh...what an ordeal this has been. My first sign of poison ivy appeared on my face and neck 15 days ago and quickly spread all over my body. After 2 days I went to the MD and she put me on a course of prednisone and zyrtec. I swear I felt like I was losing my mind..very nervous, irrabable and no relief from the poison ivy itching. I had streaks, blisters, leathery skin..the works..plus I felt sick in general. Low fever, achy. I had major abdominal surgery 2 years ago and found this more difficult.
The prednisone did nothing. I followed the MD's directions and actually felt worse after I finished the 10 days.
I was taking Aveeno baths..using clear caladryl. Just could get no relief and could not sleep more than an hour or two.
Yesterday I went out and bought Zanfel and I truly believe it has helped. I actually slept last night...only up once(although I had really bizarre dreams). Today I feel better...not as itchy and not sick. I dont know if it is the Zanfel or the the fact that I am 15 days into this.
Thanks to everyone on this board..I got alot of info here. Hopefully, I am on the road to recovery. It will be a long, long time till I venture out into my garden again!!! |
