Hi Mac,

Poison ivy itself does not have thorns, bristles or the like. But that doesn't mean that the plant is totally harmless. Remember the rash from poison ivy is really a delayed allergic reaction to urushiol oil - so you are seeing allergic contact dermatitis. Similary, other plants that cause an allergic reaction can cause a streaky rash looking similar to what you have seen for a reaction to poison ivy/urushiol oil.

The plant you describe could be some sort of bramble like wild blackberry, raspberry, dewberry, etc.
