Poison oak is an alergic reaction while the shingles (Herpes zoster) is a viral infection. The shingles would be accompanied by sharp stinging that shouldn't be present in a poison oak rash. Also shingles could be an indication of a stressed/suppressed immune system. If you have any doubts you should see your physician.
