Washing with plenty of water is normally sufficient. We just toss all our contaminated stuff in the washer and use soap. Here's some info on soaps and solvents and how they work. Poison ivy and relatives have urushiol oil which is what bonds to our skin and causes the allergic reaction. Once bonded - that oil isn't going to be removed from your skin. But for items that have the oil on it such as clothes I've found it's pretty easy to remove provided you are diligent about it. 2 of the most common areas overlooked are under the finger nails and on shoes. Wash everything well using plenty of water. Soaps or solvents are good to help remove the oil but lots of water is the key to make sure the oils is washed away.
