Here is my advice:
  1. study the pictures and learn to avoid the plants. This is my best advice. Betsy and I have been talking about building some luggage tags with pictures that folks could take with them to help identify the plants. Once you know what to look for it isn't that bad and kind of fun in an odd sort of way! ;-)
  2. carry some rubbing alcohol or wet naps and apply if you think you have encountered the plant ASAP to reduce the outbreak. Be careful though because once you do, you could get an even worse outbreak if you were to get more urushiol oil on that spot before you body can replace the naturals oils that you just removed. If I have water and just touched a poison ivy plant I might poor some water right away (ie. I am talking within a minute) to prevent any problems. If you have soap, a creek, it is even better.
  3. You might try IVY Block. It works very well. I was also wondering if sun screen would also help. Not as well as IVY Block but still help.
  4. Think positive. You will be fine!
Have a great Trip!

Any other ideas?
