I used to get the rash all the time because I hike and mountain bike virtually every weekend.  If you do have the rash I would say to use a product called Tecnu that a friend told me about nearly 10 years ago.  He used to work for the U.S. Forestry department and they used Tecnu.  It works to remove the oil that actually cause the rash to start and spread.  The oil is called urushiol and is in poison oak, ivy and sumac.  Anyhow, try and find Tecnu and follow the directions.  At least it can help stop the rash from spreading--even though I always use it to avoid the rash.  I buy it at CVS and Rite Aid. Good luck because I know how awful it is to get the rash.  Take care.
