Question Asked: No question needed as Josh discovered (belatedly) that this is poison ivy. Here are his comments: This gigantic tree is 3 feet from my kids' playset. There is so much ivy that you can't even tell what kind of tree it was. I didn't realize ivy could get that big. The tree was getting a little big, so I thought I'd trim it. BIG MISTAKE!!. I had my shirt off, too! Lucky me.. Josh's comments for the second picture: This is the pile of brush that I cut down before I knew it was poison ivy."

Answer: Josh - thanks for the pictures. That certainly was a healthy batch of poison ivy. Yes poison ivy can get quite big and it certainly can hide the host tree particularly along the trunk nearer the ground. Just a lucky day I guess :-)
